Vista Leadership Residency (VLR)

Vista Leadership Residency

What is VLR?

The Vista Leadership Residency (VLR) is an intensive training program accessible to men and women compelled to further their development as servant leaders in the Kingdom of God. We’re looking for Jesus followers at Vista who are worshipful, relational and missional, and who have a calling for strategic leadership in Kingdom advancement and church planting. Our goal is to help students, based on their God-given uniqueness and gifts, to put their best foot forward in contribution to the Kingdom of God. Put simply, we want to help students figure out what God wants them to do.

What will VLR students learn? How will they be developed?

The program includes leadership and personal/spiritual development, theological and managerial training. VLR students receive personal and intentional time with key leaders; take on more responsibility and accountability in areas they’re currently serving in, and gain broader exposure to all areas of Vista Community Church ministry. Students will be challenged to creatively and biblically work through ministry case studies to sharpen their skills as leaders and caregivers. There will be teaching training and practice, to develop speaking and writing skills and uncover potential gifting in this area. Students will also develop into coaches, to practice being “leaders of leaders.” Where they may have been ministry team leaders or Lifegroup leaders previously, they’ll be challenged to go to the next level of ministry leadership, and help recruit, train, develop, pastor, and come along-side new leaders for the expansion of God’s Kingdom.

What’s the time commitment for VLR?

Each VLR class operates as a cohort, with classes starting together and graduating together, lasting for about a year. Classes meet a few Saturday mornings per month for 3-4 hours, and some weeknights depending on the lecturers’ schedules. There is outside reading to supplement the class time, as well as message preparation and coaches training.
