The Wisdom Literature of the Hebrew Bible is a gift to us. These inspired authors look at the world around them, and at their own hearts, and set about giving us insight on how to live and what the good life looks like.
As is true with much of the rest of the Bible, a choice is put before us, a path for us to choose.
On the one hand, we can live according the wise construction of the universe as accomplished by an all-wise God. On the other hand we can do what is right only in our own eyes, and be vulnerable to the damaging impulses of our own foolishness.
The choice seems clear; lean in to the miraculous insight given to us in places like Proverbs, absorb its wisdom about who we are, how the world works, and what way of living leads to life. In choosing this, we choose to follow Jesus as He wisely lives in a way reflective of the wisdom literature of the only Bible available to Him during His earthly ministry. We immerse ourselves in the same scriptures He did.
