For nearly 2,000 years, Jesus followers have talked about the “rule of faith”. In one sense, this word rule, or ‘regula’ in the Latin, refers to the measure by which beliefs were evaluated for their orthodoxy. The surprising thing is how little was considered absolutely essential to this orthodoxy. This list of essentials is only those things that we need to understand rightly enough in order to journey into the heart of God. This life cannot be quantified by bullet points and math equations, but rather the beautiful mystery that invites us into a loving relationship that surpasses understanding, with the infinite Lord of the universe.
