Intersections: Faith & Science

Over the course of the last three hundred years, science, as a discipline, has enjoyed an increasing amount of cultural authority. As science has come to more fully and accurately explain how our universe works, scientists have been looked to more and more often as having special insight on what is ultimately real. In that same time period, it has become increasingly common to view science and faith as competing explanations for the existence of the universe. The insistence of this “conflict myth” is that one has to choose between being a person of faith and one who accepts the insights of science. For Intersections: Faith & Science on November 19 (5:45pm - 8pm), Mr. Jackson Woosley (M.Div, Dallas Seminary) will give an opening presentation on the relationship between the two disciplines. This will be followed by a panel of faith leaders and professionals in the discipline of science will converse about what possible ways forward are available to those of us who are people of faith, living in a scientific age.

As a teacher at Worthington Christian High School, Mr. Woosley works to help students navigate some of life’s biggest questions. With a deep desire to support students in their formation as followers of Christ, Jackson employs his own educational background of having an undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies and a Masters in Theology and Spiritual Formation to provide a safe place for students to think deeply, and ultimately think faithfully, about challenging topics. One such topic inherent in the curriculum are questions of Science and Faith when it comes to Biblical interpretation and whether modern scientific insights might undermine our ancient faith. In the end, questions such as these provide one more opportunity to grow in the likeness of Jesus.
